Hello,

My name is Ekaterina Semenkova. I am an artist based in Berlin, Germany.

I explore themes of freedom, agency, and the struggle for the right to belong to oneself.

My practice focuses on moments in which women confront forces that seek to limit their existence: social expectations, systems of power, control, and attempts to deny them the right to determine their own lives.

Through images of nature, the female body, animals, and symbolic landscapes, I investigate the inner movement from oppression toward liberation.

For me, the night, the sky, and the sea become ancient territories of freedom—spaces where, together with the social order, the external gaze falls asleep, allowing a deeper connection with oneself to return.

In contrast, daylight, social structures, and imposed roles can become symbols of external pressure and the imposition of another’s will.

I create worlds in which it is possible to experience what happens when a woman is stripped of the right to belong to herself—and what happens when she reclaims that right, together with the part of herself that society has tried to make compliant, quiet, and controllable.

My work is drawn to the moment when a woman stops merely surviving and begins to define her own life, tracing the journey from struggle to the recovery of her own voice.

I aim to create work that invites reflection and offers a space for connection on a human level.
